The New MSN Search
The New MSN Search is out so hurry up to get the beauty of it hot. Microsoft has definitely done a very good work with this one and I am quite impressed with it. Here are my first comments on experimenting with the new Gates machine.
- It seems to be a lot like yahoo (than like google) in the algorithm. Comparison of some of the results for random keywords show a good feeling of affinity between the engines. Of course more research is needed for this.
- It is very fast and rather elegant in the presentation of the results.
- Although it is obvious that the database of crawled sites is not as massive as the Google database the results produced are nicely relevant and I would think the engine would satisfy almost anyone looking for sites or information. After all sometimes its not size that matters.
- Blogs seem to be rather prominent in the results. Reemember the good Google season about two years ago when blogs were 'promoted' in SERPs? It seems that these days are back for bloggers through both Yahoo! and MSN search - ask to follow?
- Its nothing special. It is annoying to wait for so long for a new innovative product and simply get a copy of all current search engines in a slightly saltier flavor. Microsoft isn't usually the one to take the bold step in such matters but I was expecting a step forward from them.
So can the engine as it exists at the moment pose a threat to Yahoo! and Google? I suppose it does, in the same way as a Sony ipod given free with every other Sony product would be a threat to Apple.
